January 2016 brings us new opportunities for programs for teens at the San Lorenzo Library. Since we know that so many of our local teens need to complete service hours to graduate high school, we also have several ways that we can help! Take a look at this post and keep an eye on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/sanlorenzolibrary) for teen programming updates. If you’d like more information about any of these events, please contact the San Lorenzo Library at 510-284-0640 or stop by.
Please contact Teen Librarian Tamecca at 510-284-0646 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about any of these opportunities.
Homework Central is a great way for local teenagers to help younger kids with their homework while earning service hours. Instructor Kit Duggan supervises Homework Central, and ensures that you’ll be trained to help. Teens who speak a second language are always needed as well.
Teen Tech Help volunteers help library patrons of all ages with anything technology related. Your job is to assist patrons who get stuck using library computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, self-checkout machines, and the new automated returns machine. This is a great way to get a simplified help desk experience to add to your resume if you’d like to get into the tech industry.
TAG: Teen Advisory Group is another rewarding opportunity for teens at the San Lorenzo Library. This is your chance to make a real difference in the services, programs and materials we offer to young people in our area. TAG meets monthly. The next meeting is Thursday, January 7th at 4:00 pm.
Tell us your ideas! If none of these ideas are quite what you’d like to do, come talk with us. We may be able to work out a special opportunity – just for you!
Are you having trouble with your math homework? Is there something you’re just not quite “getting” in class? Stop by the Library for Math Tutoring for High School students on Saturdays at 10:10 am. Volunteer tutors will be on hand to help you out!
Do you like to read, but don’t really have anyone to talk with about books? The Teen Book Club is for you! You’ll get to help choose which book the group reads, and then discuss it. The Book Club meets on Tuesdays at 4:00 pm. Please sign up at the information desk.
Those who have been to the Teen Room know that there’s a TV. But did you also know that we have video games? Join us for Gaming Wednesdays:
- Middle School Students: 1:00 – 2:00 pm
- Elementary School Students: 2:00 – 3:00 pm
- High School students: 3:30 – 4:00 pm
Exam Study Night: Do you need a jump start to get you studying for exams? Join others in the same situation when you visit San Lorenzo Library for an evening of study on January 12th at 5:00 pm. Students will be seated in the Cafe Area, the Learning Center, and possibly the Greenhouse Community Room. All of the Library’s resources will be at your command. Refreshments will be served!
Make a Clay Medallion Necklace on January 13th at 3:30 pm to wear with pride or give as a gift! All materials and instructions will be provided by the Library.
It’s time for the big reveal! Join us in the Teen Room for a Teen Room Open House on January 20th at 3:00 pm.
TAG spoke, and we listened! The Teen Room is just not “teen” enough, so the Alameda County Arts Commission will be here to help with a beautification project just for our Teen Room. Join us on January 19th and January 26th from 3:30 – 5:30 pm to make Art for the Teen Room.
