We want to share items of general interest with you as well as news of the community and of the Library. If you didn’t see today’s San Francisco Chronicle, you might enjoy knowing about the article covering the Danish Index Design Awards. These are given to designs which improve the quality of life in the areas of Body, Home, Work, Play and Community. You can see the five 2007 Index Design Awards winners on the Index website.
The First Annual San Lorenzo Library Community Spelling Bee will take place on Saturday, October 13 at 1 p.m. No pre-registration is necessary. You may enter as a beginner or an expert, depending upon your level of spelling expertise. Prizes are two $50 Borders gift certificates donated by the Friends of the Library–San Lorenzo Area. For more information about the Bee, call the Library’s Information Desk at 510-670-6263.
You might also want to warm up for the bee by watching “spelling bee” movies with your friends and neighbors. The San Lorenzo Library will be showing Spellbound on Saturday, September 29 at 2 p.m. and Akeelah and the Bee on Satuday, October 6 at 2 p.m. Spellbound chronicles the story of entrants in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Akeelah is a charming and inspiring story of a young woman who uses her talent to rise above her circumstances.
These programs are free. All are welcome.
Anthony Lorenzo, the cat rescued by San Lorenzo Library staff members yesterday, visited the vet right away. His tail was infected and he was given antibiotics. The vet suspects that he might have been in a fight with another cat. He was also given flea medication and will be neutered on Saturday. The San Lorenzo Library has attracted cats in the past and all have found good homes.
Staff members captured a lovable cat with a damaged tail outside of the Library and plan to take it to a veterinarian to be examined. We will post a picture of him soon, as we don’t wish to interrupt his nap.
Please check in often for Library news, events and items of possible interest. We look forward to keeping you posted!
